Analog Phone Functions

Function List

Some phones have a button labeled FLASH, but most don't, so you must use the "hook switch". The hook switch is operated by the buttons in the handset cradle. It is the switch that actually 'hangs up' the call when you are done.

Hold

If you want to put someone on hold, press and release either cradle button firmly and quickly, then dial *1 and hang up the handset. To get them back, pick up the handset. Make sure to let the person on the other end know you are putting them on hold.

Transfer

To transfer someone to another extension, keep them talking while you locate the phone list. Once you know the number you want to transfer them to, "flash" (toggle) the hookswitch, wait for the special dial tone, dial the number to transfer them to, and hang up to complete the transfer. If you can't complete the transfer, flash the hookswitch to get them back.

Conference

To conference call, establish your first call, press the flash button, get a dial tone, dial the second number and announce the conference call, and press the flash/toggle/hookswitch button to join everyone.

Forward

Are you ready to forward your phone? Pick up the handset and dial *3 plus the extension and hang up the phone. By the way, *3-6200 forwards to your voice mail. To cancel forwarding, pick up the phone and dial **3 and hang up.

Speed Dial

Most of your phones have a speed call feature. After you program the numbers in the speed call list, you can call that number with 4 button-strokes. Hint: write down the speed call numbers with the name so you can remember them.

To enter the numbers you want to speed dial, pick up the handset and dial *7. Enter a two-digit code (00, 01, 02... 19), then enter the number as you would normally dial it from that phone (with a 9 first for an external number). Hang up the phone. Repeat this to program up to 20 numbers. If you make a mistake or don't want to call that person anymore, program a new number to the old code the same way as above.

To call using speed dial, pick up the phone, get a dial tone, dial #3 and the two-digit code.

Redial

Last number redial is available, too. Get a dial tone and dial *5
